Home Visits

At Little Swans we want to make the transition from home to nursery a positive experience that focuses on the individual needs of your child and family.

We believe that this can be achieved through positive relationships between parent/carers and staff. Continuity for children and their families is crucial in making transitions successful. Vistiing parent/carers and children in a familiar environment at home in which they feel confident and comfortable provides staff with the opportunity to discuss with parent/carers any  concerns as well as  answering questions and observing children.

During our Ofsted inspection the inspector made a judgement that:

'Staff place considerable emphasis on settling children into the nursery and ensure transitions from home are smooth. This ensures that children are comfortable, relaxed and get off to the very best of starts. Transitional arrangements between rooms and to other settings are exceptionally well fostered, so that children readily adapt to change and new experiences'.

As quoted by Ofsted April 2013

Staff use the infromation gathered during the visit to plan for each child's needs when they begin their settling in sessions at the nursery, enabling each child's key person to make the necessary adaptions to the environment and planning ensures the needs of all children are being met.

It is important for the child's key person to establish starting points for their learning and development, ensuring next steps are challenging and realistic.

Once you have decided to accept a place at the nursery we ask each parent to complete a 'All About Me Sheet' with their child, this provides staff with valuable information to support the transition. We will collect the sheet during the home visit and discuss the information provided in more detail or you can bring it into nursery on your child's frist settling in session.

Feedback recieved from parents after a home visit:

Bhavana and Dhiren said:" We were impressed by your home visit service, something unique. Both Letisha and Attya from Jelly Babies who visited our home were very considerate, understanding, willing to help, patient and very helpful. Them just being in our home made Priyen feel they were part of our family. This service, we believe, not only helped connect your nursery staff with Priyen, but also established an element of trust between us. We found the home visit really good and a positive approach".

Mairead said " I thought the home visits are a very good idea and they were beneficial to me and my daughter. For my daughter she recognised the 2 nursery nurses on her first settling in session, which was settling for her. It was also a chance for the parents to have a chat and get to know the people who will be looking after their child a bit better. It also showed that the nursery cares about your child in trying to do everything possible for your child to make sure they can settle in well".
