Although there are daily routines in place, the nursery promotes flexibility of routine, to ensure the needs of all children are catered for.

Smarties Gallery

Smarties has two large spacious playrooms that are well equipped to cater for all our children's needs. The Smarties rooms hold twenty children per day, aged 2 to 3 years.

The children begin to learn independence skills such as washing and drying their own hands and using small toilets when they are showing signs of toilet training, as well as gaining confidence in feeding themselves and drinking from open top cups. We also help the children develop self-care skills such as dressing and undressing themselves by demonstrating how to take shoes off and put them and encouraging them when dressing and undressing.  They primarily focus on learning through play, learning about colours, numbers, shapes through activities such as construction, creative activities, mark making activities and free play activities. Their personal, social and emotional development is promoted through small group play, making choices,  expressing interests, building relationships with staff and peers and looking at emotions.  Communication skills are promoted through daily story and singing times, role play activities, encouraging listening and attention skills and being engaged in verbal communication.  Staff plan daily focused activities to assist the children in their learning and development.

We have five members of staff who take care of our lovely Smarties, of which three are qualified to a Level Three in Childcare and Education. Smarties works on a 1:4 ratio.

All the children are able to play in a stimulating and structured play environment.
